解 説
|
|
体長2.5〜3.5 mm，体色は全体的に褐色。触角柄節は頭幅とほぼ同じ長さで，30本以上の立毛を持つ。前脚脛節にも多くの立毛を備える。腹柄節は厚く低く，前縁に弱い角が見られる。
河原や海岸等の乾燥した砂質草地に多く，地中に巣を作る。本種は多巣性かつ多雌性で，出芽法によってコロニーを増殖させる。コロニーサイズは巨大になり，１つの巣で数十万個体にも達する（山内，1981；Yamauchi et al., 1981, 1982)。本亜属の他種と比べて結婚飛行の期間が長く，7〜10月まで有翅個体が見られる。沖縄本島 (那覇市) からも採集されているが，屋久島以北からの人為的移入であろう。染色体組成が2n となる雄が少なからず出現することが知られている(Yamauchi et al., 2001)。
