解 説

体長5.5〜7 mm。体色は黒色。腿節，脛節，触角は暗褐色〜黒褐色で，付節はやや明色。頭部上端はクロヤマアリと違って少し光沢がある。野外において，クロヤマアリでは腹部背面が灰色っぽいのに対し，本種ではビロードのような光沢があるので区別は容易である。しかし，標本では腹部第2節背面上に立毛（剛毛）がほとんどない点で，クロヤマアリやヤマクロヤマアリから区別できる。頭部は細長く，体全体もほっそりとしている。
長らく学名不詳種であったが，Terayama & Hashimoto (1996) により新種として記載された。かってのF. sp. 5 (日本蟻類研究会,1988)に相当する。
低地帯から山地帯の主に林縁部に多いが，南九州では草地的なところにもかなり進出しており，クロヤマアリよりも多いようである。石下などに営巣する。羽アリの飛出はクロヤマアリよりも2〜3週間ほど遅い。
