Description
|
|
Mandibles perhaps the mot bizarre known in the Formicidae; each down-curved, with a large vertical lamella forming a strongly convex dorsal outline in profile; apex pointed; outer surface with longitudinal groove; inner face with several peg-like setae. Labrum with spiniform teeth. Clypeus trapezoid, raised and marginate. Antennal insertions exposed. Antennae 12-segmented; scape reaching posterior margin of head; funiculus not forming a club. Eyes absent. Promesonotal area not raised, without complete suture. Metanotal groove distinct. Propodeum without teeth; spiracle situated somewhat low on propodeum. Petiole without peduncle. In worker, postpetiole well separated from petiole and gaster by a strong constriction. In female, sternite of postpetiole fused with petiole, forming a single plate. Sting more or less developed.

Remarks
|
|
Although authorship of genus Anomalomyrma and tribe Anomalomyrmini were attributed to Taylor in Bolton (1990), the type species, Anomalomyrma taylori, was described by Bolton. The relevant descriptions were based on a single dealate female from Sabah, Malaysia. The Japanese species has not yet been formally described (Taylor, pers. comm.).
