Ant meals |
Camponotus japonicus and Lasius japonicus carry food alone. However, the small Lasius japonisus has had its food snatched away by a larger ant. Therefore, the foods are mostly small so that they can be carried rapidly. |
Ants sometimes attack a living insect. On the highlands in Nagano Prefecture and in mountain villages in the Tohoku District, there are many nests of Formica yessensis, which are useful for exterminating insects that are harmful to plains and larch woods. |
